About

I am a fifth year PhD Student in the Mydlarz lab at the University of Texas at Arlrington. The goal of my research is to identify the immune system responses in coral host and symbionts based on pathogen exposure using computational biology and machine learning apporaches. Through this objective, novel applications of machine learning methods on non-model organisms will be produced as well as identification of gene regulatory networks and biomarkers that are biologically significant for pathogen challenged hosts, pathogen challenged symbionts and host-symbiont establishment.

PhD Student - Fifth Year.

The type of pathogen challenge and disease fate correlated to a coral holobiont will result in a specified innate immune response due to the host immune system repertoire, symbiont’s immune system repertoire, and the host and symbiont relationship.

Outreach

As a members of the Mydlarz lab, I am active in outreach and teaching. Lab members participate in many activities in the community and share their passion for coral reefs, the oceans and science in general. In my personal time, I also participate in volutneer work with the Girl Scouts. Having been a member for 2 decades, I have worked on contiuing the mission of the Girl Scouts by building girls and women of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Helen Storry Seminar 2017

USA Representative for an introductory level international leadership development seminar that explored environmental issues of today and focuses on ways to raise awareness and use practical skills to create meaningful and sustainable change in the participant’s sphere of influence.

Global Leadership Pool Member

Girl Scouts of the United States of America from 2016-2022

Gold Award Liaison

Mentor to Girl Scouts working on obtaining their Gold Award. The Gold Award tackle issues that are dear to them and drive lasting change in their communities and beyond and is the highest honor a Girl Scout can obtain.
